Pietro Bonisoli’s adventure at the U19 world championships in San Juan, Argentina, ends with seventh place. Italy led by Michele Zanin made it all the way to the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by South Korea, before getting the better of Egypt in the final for 7th/8th.
During the group stage, the blue team made a clear run, finishing in command of Poule D thanks to the victories obtained against Chile, Mexico, Belgium and Brazil. Having reached the second part of the competition, Italy overcame Japan with another perfect result (3-0), thus qualifying for the quarterfinals. In the match against South Korea, Bonisoli and his companions battled it out, going ahead in two sets, but the opponents got the upper hand and forced the Azzurrini to compete for a placement between 5th and 8th place. Beaten by Belgium, Coach Zanin’s team ended its journey by imposing itself on Egypt and taking seventh place.
The number 15 from Verona, called up in the role of place four for the category championship, provided his contribution during the tournament, especially in the defense and reception phases. In the last match, however, the class of 2005 was deployed as free against the Egyptian team.
