Rana Verona presented the second new graft of the 2023/2024 season. We are talking about Nikola Jovovic, a Serbian setter who returns to play in SuperLega Credem Banca after a few years and many experiences abroad. The sporting director Gian Andrea Marchesi welcomed the director born in 1992, satisfied with his arrival on the roster led by coach Stoytchev.
These are the words of the Scaligero sporting director Marchesi: “Nikola arrives in Verona with an important weight because he has to replace a central player for the history of Verona like Rapha. The contact was simple: I call his attorney, ask for information, half an hour passes and I get the ok. Nikola accepted our proposal within minutes and that is a source of pride. With his arrival, the technical and tactical possibilities for Rado (Stoytchev, ed) will increase. Rana Verona has players who will take the field based on what happens during the week. Stoytchev has always been very correct because whoever deserves to play, plays. Nikola has a strong and combative character, has a winning mentality and has won a lot in his career. He returns to the best championship in the world after a long experience abroad. Best of luck for the new adventure. The team continues to grow with the right players for our project. It must be a team that never gives up, not only on the pitch but also in daily training. We hope to reach higher and higher in the next few years”.
“72 hours have passed since my arrival in Verona, I really like the city – Jovovic began – I immediately felt at ease in the club; the project has improved a lot, they all have the same mentality, there is the will to grow further compared to last year. In my life I have won and lost matches and I know how hard it is when you lose; it is in these moments that the true strength of the group is seen. When the call came, I knew it would be the right choice for me. I’m also very emotional: if I care about something, I give it 100%.
The Serbian setter then continued: “I left the Italian championship seven years ago; I think everything has remained the same. I know all the players; I’ve already played with many of them. In my opinion, not much has changed, some teams have changed, but the level is the same. Difference between the Russian championship and the SuperLega? This is the strongest league in the world. Here in Italy, you always have to do something different, constantly improve. The opposing teams study you a lot and for this you must always be ready and focused. In other countries the strongest always win; here the matches are very balanced. As a player I have changed a lot compared to seven years ago. I worked on myself and I think I can lend a hand to the younger ones and offer my experience”.
“I expect good things from this experience in Verona – continued the setter from Novi Sad – I’ve already seen the team’s games. It’s easy to join a group where you already know how to work. The important thing is the head, always stay focused. Yesterday I was in Bressanone with the youngsters and I spent a couple of days with Luca (Spirito, ed), he’s an incredible person and it’s a pleasure to work together in the right environment. There is no competition between us. The important thing is that Verona wins. The fans? It was very nice to see so many people at the arena. I’ve never seen Rado (Stoytchev, ed) so smiling, greeting the fans. I have always been in contact with some players from Verona and it will be incredible to experience the atmosphere. I have already spoken to Stoytchev twice, he knows Serbian very well. I didn’t expect him to speak so well. So if you have to tell me something in Serbian, I understand first (laughs, ed).
