The 2022/2023 season saw the centre-backs make an important contribution in terms of goals. Among those who guaranteed great continuity of performance there is certainly Aleks Grozdanov, who arrived at the banks of the Adige as CEV Cup champion. The class of ’98 was able to carve out a leading role within the roster led by Coach Stoytchev , impacting both at the net and from nine meters, from which he often put the opposing rearguards in difficulty thanks to his insidious float serve.
The Bulgarian third place took part in almost all the matches played between the Regular Season, Quarter Finals Play Offs, Play Offs 5th Place and Del Monte Coppa Italia, taking the field in 31 of the 32 matches faced. Overall Grozdanov collected a notable haul of 138 points, including 62 break points. There were 80 successful attacks, with a not indifferent percentage of positivity, equal to 62.5%. From nine meters, however, the number 11 from Verona scored 12 aces.
Thanks to his performances, the central defender received the MVP award in Game 2 of the Quarter Play Offs against Lube Civitanova (3-2), the first obtained during his career in Italy. Furthermore, on this occasion he exceeded the double digits of balls grounded (12), blocking his opponents on the block 5 times.
