The commitments of the Rana Verona players involved in the various international tournaments continue with the shirts of the selections of the respective countries. In Week 3 of VNL Moscow beat Canada with Italy, Grozdanov’s Bulgaria had the worst against Germany, while Mozic’s Slovenia overcame China. At the Wevza Tournament, however, Bonisoli finished second.
VNL extension
Italy
The second victory in the third week of VNL arrived for De Giorgi’s Italy. Against Canada, the match turned out to be hard fought right from the start and ended only in the tie-break. Central defender Leandro Mosca took over at the end of the third set, contributing to the victory with a blocked point. The Azzurri will face Rok Mozic’s Slovenia tomorrow in a match that promises to be balanced and which, if successful, would lead Italy to qualify directly for the Final Eight of the tournaments.
Bulgaria
After the point snatched in Cuba in the last match of Week 2, Bulgaria started with a defeat in the third stage of the tournament, falling 3 to 0 against Germany. The Verona central Aleks Grozdanov fell on the Anaheim taraflex in all three sets, collecting a haul of 7 points, with five attacks scored, an ace (the only one made by coach Konstantnov’s team) and a winning block. The Bulgarian formation will be on stage again tomorrow against Iran.
Slovenia
In the second weekly round, Slovenia beat China 3-1. After a loose start, the white-red-blue team was unable to close the match in three sets, suffering from the good reaction from China in the third fraction, before achieving success in the fourth set. Coach Cretu preferred not to deploy the Scaliger hammer Rok Mozic, in view of tomorrow’s insidious challenge with teammate Mosca’s Italy, scheduled for 9.00 am Italian time.
WEVZA TOURNAMENT
Italy U19
The Wevza Tournament, held in the Portuguese town of Viana do Castelo, which involved Pietro Bonisoli with the Italian Under 19 national team, ended yesterday. The Azzurri finished the competition in second place behind France. After an undefeated series, characterized by victories against the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium and Germany, Italy succumbed to the tie-break in the final against the transalpine team. In the first two outings of the tournament, the 2005 La Scala player was used as a libero; in the latter, however, he found space as place 4. The final classification is as follows: France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Spain, Belgium, Portugal.
